Get the Passport first

Following are the steps,

(the forum has topics on all of this, please research/read the topics first. You can always post question and someone from the forum will answer)

1) TOEFL (English test - really easy compared to other exams and can be given in most countries)

2) Try to give the NBDE parts in the internship year. Or atleast just after becoming a dentist in your country. Obtain visitor visa to US or Canada to give the NBDE parts

3) Clear NBDE Part 1 (Expensive and can be currently given only in US or Canada)

4) Clear NBDE part 2 (Same as above. Preferable to give this exam to maximize chance as more and more universities are asking for it now.)

5) Research the universities (list is in useful attachments, be sure to visit the program's website to get uptodate information) to apply

6) Get excellent recommendation letters from your dental college. Your personal statement is very important. Any national/international articles presented, volunteering activities and leadership position will help making a very strong personal statement.

7) Apply to the universities.

8 Now a days programs call for face to face interviews and bench exams. September thru March. Attend interviews.

9) Once you get admission letter from US get student visa. You will have to show funds (money) to pay for the education in order to get the visa.

10) Network thru this forum to find others who got admitted in the same university. They may later become your room mates. It is generally cheaper to stay along with room mates in an apartment over staying in a dorm.

11) Computers are cheap in USA. You will need one for your studies here some schools tell you to buy from them.

12) Try doing some part time job (one can do part time work on student visa) while you study. Dental hygienists are in demand and it will be very easy to clear the certification for it. Build your credit history during this time.

13) Study well and aim to clear the America dental board exam for license as soon as possible (preferably in the last year in US dental school). Get your US driver's license.

14) Once you are board certified, it will be very easy to get a dentist job and a H1 (work) visa. (If you choose to practice in a remote area, Green card can be obtained faster, inquire about it in the job interview).

15) As soon as you start as a dentist apply for Green card.

16) Start paying off your loans, buy a home, buy a car. Choose to enjoy your bachelor life for some time or get married.

17) After getting Green card (could take 5 years or so) it is advisable to start your own practice. With your own practice you may be even able to offer job (part time or dentist job) to one of your juniors.

18) Continue to enjoy life. Continue contributing to this forum and the community.

Most important thing to remember is to be cool all the time. Never be stressed. Always enjoy life. There will be twists and turns and so called obstacles. Every obstacle is actually an opportunity that will yield more.

Good luck!  Wink

the duration for the course is 2years or 3years depending on which dental school you select.you can give your exam while doing your internship , but while applying to the college you need your degree certificate.

Well i think one has to apply through PASS ,But it is very tough to get in one.... The best thing to do is get to a DDS program and then do the residency.

Hey there
I will get my degree in December 2008 from a non-accredited college. And I will be giving NBDE Part 1 in July.
When is soonest that I can get an admission in dental school. I would like to apply now (for the year of 2009), is there any possible way that I can apply without my degree (because I get my degree in December2008)and most schools admission applications last date is October. So can anyone please assist me regarding what would be the best choice for me? Reply Soon.

You will have to get your credentials (transcripts, etc) verified by ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators) you can apply online at www.ece.org and at the same time you have ofcourse to apply for part I, once the joint commission receives your application and the ECE report they will notify you to register for the exam, I hope that helps

I found this in the Q&A section of the ECE website

11. How long will it take to prepare my evaluation report?

Reports without rush service are usually prepared within an average of 15 to 20 business days from the date we receive all required documentation and fees. However, due to a higher than normal application volume, our current estimated processing time for some reports is 25 to 30 business days.

We also offer three types of rush service.

1-business day ($270, includes the General evaluation report fee): Available for General reports only. 1-day rush reports are completed one Business day following receipt of all required documents.

5-business days ($75, in addition to the evaluation report fee): Available for all report types. 5-day rush reports are completed within five business days following receipt of all required documents.

12-business days ($45, in addition to the evaluation report fee): Available for all report types. 12-day rush reports are completed within twelve business days following receipt of all required documents.

Great job, kilani!

I have some information for beginers.
I have applied for general evaluation (i called NBDE Joint Commision and they told me that this is enough), but after that i saw that most universities require course by course evaluation. So i changed my option and got some more copies for the aplication to universities.

hi!
I received the ECE evaluation, it's 3.5 Hope it is good.
Please, help me with the next step. I sent one copy of evaluation to the Joint Comission. What should I do to get the authorisation letter to be abble to go to prometric? And I heard that after you have this letter you have only 3 months to schedule for the exam. Is that right?

Thanks a bunch!!!

I just completed with my final year exams.
I would like to know about the loan system for a foreign graduate aspiring for a DDS. Is it too elaborate? Loans are provided to anyone and everyone? Obviously some form of security has to be demonstrated. What is the process like?
Thanks

Hey Dentist 33..

Thank you for the efforts and time you put into this..

I tried reading through the lines of this forum but I think You are the one who can answer my questions..

And Im really  a starter..

So, except from a passport.. What do I need to start the NBDE?

How much cost the NBDE 1? How much is the 2?

What is all the material out there that one need to prepare for the NBDE? Where to get it?
Is there any other material that can make this an easy task? Where to get it?

I heard that they are going to start considering experience!! Where can one make sure about that?

I still have a kind of private question.. I ll try to PM you..

Thank you in advance..
